Professional athletes are frequently presented as modern heroes. Healthy, wealthy and publicly recognized sportspeople seem to make perfect role-models for both children and adults. And quite rightly perhaps. Their stories show that doing sports professionally brings obvious benefits, but it is only a part of the entire picture, as professional sport has also a number of evident drawbacks, such as intense pressure or mental stress.

Professional athletes are frequently presented as modern heroes. Healthy, wealthy and publicly recognized sportspeople seem to make perfect role-models for both children and adults. However, in my opinion, even though their stories show some obvious benefits of success in sport, the drawbacks of being a professional sportsperson are much more evident.

Uwaga! Zakończenie mogłoby być nieco dłuższe, bardziej zbliżone objętością do wstępu, dzięki czemu forma tekstu byłaby bardziej zrównoważona.

Imagine your country without any regulations concerning drinking alcohol and using drugs. Anybody can get drugs and alcohol and use them no matter how old they are and what they do. It sounds creepy, doesn't it? This is roughly the situation with the Internet now. The Internet should be regulated. Its full regulation would bring fairness and safety under the law. Data would be protected and harmful content stopped.

Nobody should remain anonymous online. Is should be possible to identify Internet users if need be. In this way, we will be able to protect our children from abuse, stop people from spreading hateful content and prevent Internet scam. It is claimed that the Internet cannot be controlled because it does not have any physical space. The truth is it is just sound and pictures sent over large distances. There are plenty of international laws regarding trade or the seas.

It is believed that large international corporations should introduce their own regulations. They are very unlike to do that because their main aim is to make as much money as possible. Money is often made on illegal content. Can we afford to put up with terrorist and extremist content online? How can we stop it if we do not have any international regulations? What about pornography, all copyrighted information and cybercrime?

The internet must be regulated as soon as possible. It is in the best interest of us all. We do not want to let anybody drink alcohol and use drugs whenever they want. Free speech is essential and so is the safety of our children and our data.

Recycling – is it really important?

Have you ever thought about how much rubbish you throw away? We produce incredible amounts of waste every day. Throwing away rubbish means we are getting rid of our planet’s precious resources. How to solve this problem? Different ecological organisations work really hard on that.

First of all it is very important for people to realize the damage that our rubbish is doing to the environment. If we do not want to turn it into a garbage heap we ought to change our way of thinking and stop being so wasteful. We must not longer afford to throw away non-disposable containers or there will be no place, river, lake or beach free from the debris of man.

There is absolutely no excuse for throwing away our rubbish. Let’s take advantage of recycling facilities in our cities. There can be no problem if we divide our rubbish into separate containers for glass, paper and metal.

Saving some recyclable materials and taking them to recycling centres should be our basic duty. In this way we will protect our natural environment. By recycling the paper, for instance, we will reduce the process of deforestation. We can also buy only ecologically safe products made from or wrapped in recycled material.

Another solution is returning cans, bottles or plastic bottle tops to a store or putting them into special containers.

Recycling is easy and we all should take part in it because ‘if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem’.

They’ll hate you for that!

Can the right to free expression really justify any kind of hate speech online? Should it really be protected under the free speech amendment? It is often said that hate speech cannot really be defined, that people have the freedom not to listen to those who spew hatred. Yet I often get a feeling that there is something wrong with the fact that a lot of people get away with the horrible things they write online.

[przykładowa wypowiedź]

Star actors and actresses often do not give it a single thought when they talk to their fans, who often pay a lot of attention to what their idols say. Let’s consider an example. An 8-year-old fan managed to approach Catherine Zeta-Jones and told her that she wanted to be an actress, too. The young fan didn’t quite get the response she was hoping for. She said that the star actress had turned to her, looked her up and down and said, ‘You’re pretty enough, I suppose’. The girl saw it as a turning point in her life: She started thinking constantly how everyone was judging her on her appearance.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing with regard to your advertisement which appeared in the Daily Mirror on 3rd June 2022. I would like to apply for the teaching position in your kindergarten. I believe I have the education, experience and personality, that an excellent teacher needs.

As the enclosed CV indicates, I graduated from Warsaw University with a degree in Pedagogy with distinction. Since my graduation last summer I have been working in a public nursery school. Two years ago I worked as an au pair in the USA and looked after two small kids.

My experience with taking care of small children also in my family could prove useful to working in your kindergarten. This has given me a lot of practical knowledge of working with children at different age.

I feel I am a suitable candidate for this job because I have the virtues needed to become a great teacher – I am patient, cheerful and organized. Most of all I enjoy working with kids and I love playing with them. I am also cooperative and friendly which makes me an ideal candidate for this job. I know the position you offer would be satisfying to me.

If you think my qualifications are suitable I would be grateful for the opportunity of an interview. I can also provide references (on your demand) from my school. Thank you for consideration.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

XYZ

Dear Ms Jenkins,

I am writing to thank you for your warm welcome and all the kindness you showed us when we stayed at your place. As you may recall, we discussed your coming to Ostrołęka next summer. May I suggest that you stay a few days at our place and then go to the seaside and enjoy ourselves? I would like to know what you think about my suggestion.

I look forward to hearing from you

Yours sincerely,

Katarzyna Sierpień

Dear Mayor,

I am writing to you on behalf of all Northbank Primary School students to talk about the current state of our school building. Just yesterday, my friend Robert hurt his leg during a PE lesson. We were playing football when he fell into a hole on the field. There are many holes on the football field, which makes it hard and dangerous to play. Because of this, Robert will not be able to join PE lessons for the next eight weeks.

Our school was built in the 1930s, and since then it has not been properly repaired. When it rains, we cannot have PE lessons inside because the gym roof leaks. We all use buckets and mops to protect the floor. If we do not do this, we might lose the gym for good.

Also, during all our years in school, we have not been able to do any chemistry experiments because there is no chemistry lab. It feels unfair that we have to study in an old, broken school, without a lab, with a leaking roof and a damaged football field.

Please help us, Mr. Mayor. Our headmaster says there is no money for the repairs. We would be very grateful for any help. The repairs do not have to happen all at once. We could start with fixing the roof, then make a chemistry lab, and finally fix the football field.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

The students of Northbank Primary School
