A: So, when it comes to our plans for Saturday evening. I was thinking that we could check out that new British restaurant – Nottingham House. It’s located in Flower Street. It opens at 3 p.m. I could book a table if you like.

B: Okay, I think it’s a good idea. Quite original.

A: Great. I’ve checked their menu and the reviews on TripAdvisor, so I’d go for chicken salad as a starter and shepherd’s pie as a main course. People say that they serve the pie with a modern twist. I can’t wait to try it.

B: Okay. Please, send me the link to the menu so that I can check it out before we go there.

A: Sure. And there’s one little problem. Nottingham House doesn’t serve desserts. I was thinking that we could go and have some ice-cream. There’s a cosy café nearby.

B: I don’t really like ice-cream.

A: Oh, okay. What about a piece of really tasty cake? They serve absolutely amazing chocolate and lemon cake.

B: Okay. I can see you’ve been there a couple of times.

A: After dinner and dessert, we could go to the cinema if you’d like. There’s a new James Bond movie on.

B: Sure, nice idea.

In the picture, I can see seven young people. Five of them are sitting at the table and two are standing next to that table. This is probably they workspace. Some of them may be discussing some new projects, one woman is working on a tablet, two men are writing something on their laptops and the man and the woman who are standing may be exchanging their opinions. There’s also a whiteboard, on which they can write their ideas, remarks, questions, some graphs. Next to the whiteboard, there’s a small coffee table and an armchair, where you can sit, eat and relax.

1. Why are there glass walls on both side of the table?

The purpose of those glass walls is probably to separate each workspace, where a particular team is sitting and working or taking a rest. As a result, it’s not so noisy and you hear only your colleagues, the people who you’re working with.

2. Which electronic gadget do you most often use while studying? Why?

I think it’ll probably be my computer. I have my notes and textbooks in pdf files on it. Occasionally, I use my smartphone to look up some information online, but it’s my computer mostly. I often watch lectures or lessons on YouTube as well.

3. Tell us when you first got a smartphone. What did you use it for first? How did you feel about it?

I didn’t actually get my first smartphone. I bought it myself. My parents didn’t really want to buy me a smartphone, so I saved up enough money to buy it. It took me a while, but finally I was able to buy a cheap one. I was pretty happy with it. I used it first to text my friends and use Facebook.

I would definitely want to live in a terraced house, because there is enough space for each member of the family. Each has own room and there’s usually a guest room, a living room, and sometimes even a separate dining room. Plus, you usually have a backyard. It’s normally a very small garden, but it’s somewhere to sit and relax. Besides, terraced houses are less expansive that big detached houses and the mortgage is more affordable.

I don’t want to live in a detached house, because it’s too big for me and my family. And it’s hard to keep a large house. You need to mow a big lawn, sometimes the roof leaks. And you have two or three floors to vacuum at least once a week, and I don’t like chores.

I don’t want to live in a block of flats either because there are too many people in a relatively small place. You here your neighbours, you hear them quarrelling. When someone who lives next door returns home or leaves very early or very late, you can hear them shutting the door and talking in the hall.

1. What type of building do you live in? What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in it?

I live in a semi-detached house. I live with my parents and my brother. My grandparents with my aunt and uncle are our neighbours. The advantage of this type of house is having a garden with a couple of trees and space to play games and grow some vegetables.

2. What’s it like to live in a large block of flats?

Well, you don't have a garden, but you never have to worry about dealing with a broken boiler or blocked drains. Also, being on the fourth floor, it would be impossible for anyone to break into our property from the outside. You just need a good door. There are a lot of neighbours, but they can also be friendly and helpful people so your life is easier.

3. What facilities should a neighbourhood where parents with kids live have?

First of all, a playground or even playgrounds so that the children have space to play and have fun. It would be nice to also have a kindergarten nearby, so that you don’t waste any additional time driving your kids to some distant kindergarten. Also, a clinic nearby is very convenient for parents. Children often get sick and need help.

4. Do you prefer old or modern buildings? Why?

I prefer modern buildings because there’ve got brad new installations, pipes etc. And you don’t have to worry about repairing them. Plus, those building have better isolation, so it’s colder in the summer and warmer in winter. Old buildings are often damp and cold.
