[przykładowy dialog; A – uczeń, B – egzaminator]

A: This month, my parents and I are moving to Sheffield. My mum got a new better-paid job there.

B: And what about your dad?

A: He works from home, so for him it doesn’t matter where we live. Anyway, this week we’re packing the last things: clothes, shoes, bags, books and some electronic devices.

B: Do you need any help with packing?

A: I appreciate your offer, but no, thanks. We’re almost finished, and the moving company will take care of the rest: our beds, wardrobes, my bookcase and some kitchen appliances. The remaining furniture and household appliances will be either sold or thrown out. That’s because our new flat is smaller and we don’t need that many things there.

B: Don’t you think a smaller flat will be less comfortable?

A: Not at all, it’s only 10m2 smaller and located in the city centre, in a very nice modern building. And my new school is just one kilometre away, so it’s very convenient. I’ll be able to get there on foot.

B: Do you know anything about your new school? Your classmates and teachers?

A: Actually, I’ve just met three of my new classmates this week. We’ve exchanged some e-mails, and tomorrow, we’ll have a Zoom meeting to get to know each other better.

B: Great.

[przykładowa wypowiedź, przykładowe pytania egzaminatora]

In the picture I can see a group of six friends. They’re sitting at a coffee table. They seem to be having a lot of fun playing a kind of board game. They are probably high school students. Playing board games may be their way of spending time together. They’re at home, most likely in the living room because in the background there is an armchair, a lamp, a bookshelf. They’re casually dressed, so they’ve probably just come here after their classes or it might be the weekend, so they don’t have any lessons. Maybe after the game they will order a pizza or cook something and watch a movie or maybe a TV series together.

1. Why are the people playing this game?

The people in the picture are probably playing this game because they enjoy spending time together and having fun. Board games are a great way to relax and socialize, especially after a long day at school. They may also be playing to challenge each other, test their strategic thinking, or simply escape from their daily routine. Another reason could be that they are celebrating a special occasion, like a birthday or the end of exams. Playing board games allows them to bond, share laughter, and create good memories together.

2. Why do you think board games are still quite popular?

Board games may be popular for different reasons. The internet has made it easier for people to find out about them. Also, you can find the rules on the internet. Crowdfunding means different board games are being published. Producers can get money this way to promote their ideas. People are trying to reduce their screen time. They like the idea of getting together and having fun. It's also a kind of competition and a lot of people like to compete.

3. Describe the last time you played a game with your friends or family members.

The last time I played a game with my friends was a few weeks ago. We decided to have a game night at my friend’s house, and we played Catan. It was a lot of fun because everyone got really competitive, trying to trade resources and build the longest roads. We were laughing a lot, especially when someone made a risky move that didn’t work out. In the end, my friend won, but we all had a great time. After the game, we ordered pizza and watched a movie, which made the evening even more enjoyable. It was a perfect way to relax and take a break from our everyday responsibilities.

I’d definitely choose picture number one, that is the laptop. Its screen is big enough to open and edit a few files at the same time, as well as a search engines and some professional databases. Plus a laptop has much more memory and a powerful battery, so it can work for many hours without recharging. At the same time, it’s portable, so you can either put it in a special bag or your regular bag and take it with you when you go home or anywhere else you might need it.

I’d never ask an employer for a tablet, because I don’t like working with a touch screen. It’s very difficult to touch and select some options on it, or write something in an Excel files. Moreover, such a glass touch screen can break easily, even if you put some a screen protector on it.

I wouldn’t choose a smartphone either. Its screen is too small. You can’t see all the details and if you want to, you must zoom in on the page, but then you don’t see other pieces of information in an e-mail or file. Another disadvantage of a smartphone is its battery: if you use this device (and the internet) for 6 or 7 hours, you have to recharge it. So sometimes it needs charging twice a day, or you have to carry a power bank with you, wherever you go. On the other hand, you usually need a smartphone for work.

1. Do you think all employers should give their employees electronic devices for free?

If such a device is necessary for them to work – yes. It’s the employers’ duty to provide their employees with a suitable workspace as well as all the necessary devices to perform work.

2. Which electronic devices do you actually use and find most useful?

In my everyday life, it’s definitely my smartphone: with it, I text people, write e-mails, search the internet, take photos. When it comes to studying, it’s my laptop.

3. Do you think it is still possible to work without computers or smartphones?

Yes, of course. It all depends on the job you have. There are still a lot of jobs, such as a construction worker, hairdresser, miner, where you don’t need any electronic devices. However, very often people expect you to have a smartphone to respond to their messages or answer their phone calls.

4. Do you think that AI and the so called technological disruption will be a problem in the future?

I’m not afraid of AI, not really. On the other hand, for instance in China, due to new technologies, people can be followed all the time. This is scary. Also, some smart machines may take our jobs away in the future. What will happen then? What will unemployed people do?
